Munay is the Quechua word for love. This is the first principle of the Andean way of life.

We choose to make wines that shows the quality of the fruit and are easy to drink. We believe that wine should be enjoyed and shared with friends. We hope you feel the love we have for our wines and our place.

about Munay.

Munay is the Quechua word for love. Quechua was the language used by the Inca empire, the indigenous people that many years ago ruled Peru, Bolivia and the north of Argentina. Its influence remains today and we wanted to pay tribute to them and the way of living with these wines.

Munay is a family project run by Lucia Romero, who has been working in the wine industry for more than 15 years. These wines are the result of our love for Cafayate, a unique wine region that we want you to discover.

Our place, Cafayate Salta

The wine region

We tend to our vines at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level in a unique and privileged region. In the province of Salta, Argentina, 180 km south of the capital, lies this region with an extreme desert climate, offering warm days and cool nights, very little rainfall and plentiful sunlight, with vineyards planted between 1,700 and 2,500 meters above sea level. Cafayate is a small, isolated valley with very special characteristics—its desert climate and poor soils benefit the production of high quality grapes, making it easy to practice integrated, sustainable and organic viticulture. The principal factor influencing the vines is the day-night temperature variation, due to the altitude, which allows the grapes to become very concentrated and at the same time very ripe, resulting in wines with smooth, round tannins.

Vineyard Finca el Retiro

These are the winery’s oldest vines, with plants more than 50 years old. It is the only vineyard with pergola training, which is ideal for Torrontés.Finca Rio Seco

Soil: alluvial origin, with a sandy texture

Vineyard Finca Rio Seco

This is a very well balanced vineyard, with 18-year old vines where the polyphenolic and aromatic concentration of the red varietals stand out.

Hectares: 60hs

Varieties: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Fran, Tannat, Syrah y Petit Verdot.

Trainning Method: VSP

Altitude: 1700 mts a.s.l.

Soil: alluvial origin, rocky soils with a light sand consistency and good drainage, in the higher parts you can see more presence of big rocks among the vines.

MUNAY COLLECTION

Munay Malbec

We made this Malbec with Munay, or love. Our full – bodied Malbec has pure and ripe fruit with a hint of oak. In the mouth is rounded and gentle, yet firm on the palate with a long finish

Munay Tannat

We made this Tannat with Munay, or love. We make this Tannnat believing is has found its place in this valley, and we make it in the young, fruity style that we like to drink . Cafayate is famous for its altitude and the intensity of the sun, this is why ou Tannat has softer tannins and it’s gentler in the palate.

Munay Torrontés

We made this Torrontes with Munay, or love. Our juicy Torrontes has aromas of flowers and stony fruits. In the mouth is well balanced with pleasing acidity and minerality.

Munay Lucia's Blend

Lucia’s Blend is composed with 50% Malbec and 50% Cabernet Franc. We made this blend with Munay and it shows the love Lucía has for blends. This is why with she has chosen the varieties that stand out the most and that go well together to create this blend. This complex wine has enticing flavors of blueberries, raspberries, and black pepper, and presents a lush mouthfeel with a silky finish.

Munay Rose

We made this Malbec Rose with Munay, or Love. Our fresh and bright Malbec Rose has a pale salmon pink colour and a fine florality, with aromas of wild strawberry and cherry. In the mouth is elegant and delicate, with crunchy acidity, redcurrant and strawberry flavours. This is Lucías favorite wine for the spring and summer time.
